Improving outcomes for community
Central Coast Community Legal Centre is a community-owned, community-run, not-for-profit organisation whose purpose is to stand with our Central Coast community to help them face and overcome legal challenges in their lives.
What We Provide
Our safe, non-judgemental, free legal help is given in a strictly confidential manner. This results in people being able to navigate the complexity of the legal system, feeling in control with less trauma.
We run legal outreach clinics at Toukley Neighbourhood Centre, Mingaletta Aboriginal Corporation, Gosford Local Court, The Glen, Wyong Hospital and Wyong Local Court. We also run the Children’s Court Assistance Scheme to support young people and their families attending Broadmeadow, Wyong and Woy Woy Children’s Court.
We coordinate the Cooperative Legal Services Delivery (CLSD) program. This program brings together both legal and non-legal service providers in the region to identify unmet legal need and develop responsive projects/programs.
Who We Work With
Our vision is to empower the most disadvantaged people in our community with quality legal information, education and advice and help them understand and access the legal system to achieve better—and fairer—outcomes for themselves.
We give priority to people living in poverty, Aboriginal people, people living in fear of violence, people with mental illness, people with a disability, young people, homeless people and anyone who is marginalised or vulnerable.
An important feature of our approach is that we work in partnership with other community service organisations to help provide a ‘wrap-around’ service for our clients—because legal problems never exist in isolation, and neither do the solutions. Central Coast Community Legal Centre enjoys close working relationships with:
- Aboriginal organisations
- Neighbourhood centres
- Shelter, refuge and homelessness services
- Youth services
- Health services, including mental health services and women’s health centres
Part of a network of community legal centres
Established over twenty five years ago in 1996, the Central Coast Community Legal Centre is one of almost 200 similar services operating across Australia. Some community legal centres specialise in particular areas of law, such as the Women’s Legal Centre or the Tenants’ Advisory Service, while others are generalist local centres, like ours.
We are part of—and accredited by—the Community Legal Centres Australia, who are the national peak body for the community legal sector in Australia.
Our state peak body is Community Legal Centres NSW and we work in collaboration with other community legal centres, Legal Aid NSW and private law firms as well as our referral network of community organisations.
Funded by the Community Legal Centres Program administered by Legal Aid NSW
The Central Coast Community Legal Centre is struggling to meet demand. Last year we had to turn away over 1700 people simply because we don’t have enough solicitors to provide timely assistance.
That’s why we’re asking for your support to raise much needed funds.
